Description

Captured on traditional photographic film beneath a dark night sky, this image preserves the Milky Way with the unmistakable character of analog astrophotography. Natural grain, subtle color, and the texture of film give this view of our galaxy a timeless quality that digital imaging cannot quite replicate.

This image was taken on 35mm Fuji Acros II film on the Observatory’s original Olympus OM-1 35mm camera–Olympia. Originally part of a Milky Way panorama, the core came out too well for a 6 minute exposure that it deserved to be its own print.
